Contact on ball plays an important role rather than power. When you think on how to improve your snooker game, it is important that you keep this point in your mind. Fastest breaks are applied at 30mph, and at his speed, people easily loose control too. Beyond this, I have come across people who apply breaks just at in range of 20mph.
Here are some cue points that will guide you on how to improve your snooker game.
Have you ever played baseball? Well if yes, then you know what I want to say. If no, then must tell you that faster pitches come from the leg force and fast bat speed comes from hips and not arms. Similarly in basketball, long jumps are the result of force coming from the hips and not the arms. Now, what do all these examples hint at? They hint that all the body weight is the manner in which body weight is transferred and not the arm speed or the power.
People like Bustamante, Archer, and Pagulayan can rush the rack without much of force applied. No, they are no Hercules! But, they do it. How! Well they all the masters in transferring the weight from the back leg to the front. It is a common show where you see the players flying up off their back legs during the break event. I can show you numerous examples of weight transfer, but the one that will help you on how to improve your snooker game is when you lift your leg up the floor. Now in this case, when you stand on one leg, you will feel that the weight has been transferred to that single leg on which you stand.
Technique - 1 - Rocking Back and Forth - In this action, you will be transferring the weight from back leg to front leg. However, guys, this technique have a serious downfall as well. When you rock there is extensive head movement and this gives a depreciated accuracy levels. It also causes extensive movement of bridge hand, which also reduces the accuracy levels.
Technique - 2 - Lifting Front leg - The technique is followed by players where they lift the front leg before the final stroke, as the result of which the weight is transferred to the back leg. After a while, they clump their front legs down on earth. The negative side of it is that even this technique results in decreased accuracy.
Technique - 3 - Hip Rotation - This is the ideal method of transfer of body weight. Good way to learn is from the golfer. Yes, because a golfer uses his hips to produce club speed. Same trick can be usefully taken in the context of pool break shot.
Technique - 4 - Hip in Line with Cue - This is my personal weight transfer technique. I take the position of my left foot at 45 degrees angle and synchronize it with line of shot. This technique requires tremendous amount of resilience and flexibility. All power breakers have this feature of maintaining their flexibility.
And when I tell you all this while on how to improve your snooker game, you follow my stance. I make normal shots, with my chin positioned on the cue, whereas when I make break shot, my head rises 6" above cue.
