9-Ball Game Rules & Strategy

For a long time now the 9-Ball has proved to be a darling of the Pool lovers. The amazing popularity of the game can be attributed to the interesting open break and pocketing action if offers.

The 9-Ball Pool is actually a rotation game. Here is a look at the 9-Ball rules that a player has to follow.

First of all the general 9-Ball rules, the players have to shoot the lowest numbered ball placed on the table, the rule is that if the 9 numbered ball gets into a pocket on a shot, even if it happens on the break, the player wins.

According to the 9-Ball rules, the balls numbered one through nine have to be racked in a diamond shape. The 1 ball is to be kept in front; this is to make it easy for the player to hit the ball first without any difficulty. The 9-Ball is to be kept in the center. This rule helps to make sure that it is not easy to pocket the ball on the open break. Beginners, who do not know about the 9-Ball rules, simply forget to hide the 9-Ball in the center of the diamond shape rack. If the 9-Ball is moved to another position, an experienced player can easily sink it at the time of the break and win the game in a jiffy.

According to the 9-Ball rules the player has to hit the lowest numbered ball first by striking the cue ball. After being hit by the cue ball at least one of the ten balls on the table should touch a rail or get down in a pocket. If that does not happen, then according to the 9-Ball rules the opponent receives the ball-in-hand. The good players who know about the game make it a point to pocket the 9-Ball early on in the game for the win.

All the 9-Ball rules are easy but they surely take some time to learn. The 9-Ball game is actually a shark Pool, where a person can easily become a victim if he does not know the rules.

Some of the 9-Ball rules additions include the famous "Three Foul Rule". According to this rule if a person commits three fouls or scratches consecutively, this will leads to the game being ended at that point. This 9-Ball rule is only enforced when the opposing player verbally announces after two fouls have been "achieved" before making the third infraction. A skilled player who has the complete knowledge of 9-Ball rules can easily position the balls in a way to make the other player commit a foul three times and lose the game.

There also is the "Push Rule" that gives the player a chance after the break shot. According to this rule the player can shoot the cue ball anywhere without even touching the lowest ball, for a defensive game. It is up to the other player to accept the new position or force the player who made the push to attempt the shot again, by playing a regular shot.

The knowledge of these 9-Ball rules can help a person to play the game the right way.
